US – Sports betting live at Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh

Following a two-day test period last week, Rivers Casino has received approval from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board to officially open its sportsbook.

The Rivers sportsbook, powered by Kambi, is located between the high-limit table games room and a self-serve beverage station, is a comfortable, nonsmoking area with nine large-screen TVs, 24 lounge chairs,18 high-top tables capable of seating four people each and six self-serve betting kiosks and a counter with six terminals for placing bets with help from attendants.

Rivers Casino General Manager Bill Keena said: “We’ve had a great reaction from our guests and the community to our soft launch, and we’re very excited to begin daily operations. Many, many people have collaborated to make Rivers Sportsbook a reality, and we thank each and every one of them.”

Pennsylvania sportsbooks will have to hand over 36 per cent of gross revenue to the state, the highest sports betting tax rate in the country so far.

“The margins are going to be very slim because of the tax,” Mr. Keena added. “We are going to probably rely on getting extra slot revenue, table game revenue, and food and beverage revenue because the margins simply aren’t going to be there because of the tax.”

“The big unknown is, we don’t know how much pent-up demand there is,” Keena said.
Rivers Casino is within walking distance of Heinz Field with the Pittsburgh Steelers play with a game over the weekend drawing large crowds to the casino.
