Chile – Revenues on the rise for April in Chile

Gaming revenue is once again on the rise in Chile according to statistics released by the Chilean Gaming Control Board (SJC).

In April gross gaming income stood at $25.472bn pesos an increase of 2.3 per cent compared to the same month last year. In April the 16 municipalities and 11 regions where the casinos are located received a total of $4.156bn in gaming tax revenue while casinos generated an additional $1.399bn in tax on entrance fees for the state. On top of this amount the casinos also generated $4.067bn in gaming VAT. The number of visitors was up by 3.4 per cent compared to the previous month and stood at 440,921 who on average spent $57,770 each.
In terms of gross gaming income generated by the casinos the Monticello Grand Casino came in first place with 27.6 per cent ($7.039bn). Marina del Sol 12.5 per cent ($3.174bn). Casino Rinconada 11.2 per cent ($ 2.853bn). Enjoy Antofagasta 9.5 per cent ($2.415bn). Dreams Temuco 7.1 per cent ($ 1.817bn). Dreams Punta Arenas 5.9 per cent ($1.498bn). Casino Sol Calama 4.2 per cent ($1.072bn). Gran Casino de Talca 4.0 per cent ($1.029 bn). Dreams Valdivia 3.9 per cent ($ 1.004bn). Antay Casino & Hotel 3.5 per cent ($883m). Casino Sol Osorno 2.4 per cent ($618m). Casino de Colchagua 2.1 per cent ($539m). Casino de Juegos del Pacífico 2.1 per cent ($525m). Casino Gran Los Ángeles 1.5 per cent ($382m). Dreams Coyhaique 1.3 per cent ($340m). Coming in last place was Enjoy Chiloé with 1.1 per cent ($285m).

According to the latest statistics released by the SJC the 10,093 slot machines in April handed out an average of 93.8 per cent of the stake. While the total bets made on slot machines stood at $342.863bn the prizes handed out stood at $321.763bn leaving a total win for the casinos of $21.1m.

The figures come at a crucial time for the local gaming industry now that Dreams and Sun International have officially merged. The merger creates Latin America’s largest gaming group and the news could hail in a new era in the Latin American gaming industry as the newly merged company seeks to make further inroads into the Chilean gaming market. Sun International already owns the largest casino in Chile the Monticello Grand Casino. According to the accumulated gross revenues in 2015 as made public by the SCJ, and taking into account both municipal and privately operated casinos, Sun-Dreams leads the local market with a 40 per cent share, followed closely by Enjoy with 38 per cent share.

The market will also see major changes now that the Chilean Gaming Board (SJC) has published the requirements for the upcoming tender process for the municipal casino licences. According to estimates released by the SJC, the new tender process could help raise tax income generated for the state by the new casinos by as much as 46 per cent on average while gross gaming income (which will be divided equally between the municipality and the state where the casino is located) will increase by 20 per cent.
